Live Review: Ward Thomas at Southampton Engine Rooms

Ward Thomas.jpg

Modern country music duo Ward Thomas performed in front of a sold out Southampton Engine Rooms on Friday as they once again showed why they’re one of the most exciting acts in the country. Hampshire twins Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas recently release their second studio album Cartwheels that achieved a number one album in the UK. And you could tell the excitement and anticipation of the crowd waiting to see this album being played live. The duo was supported by American country singer Sarah Darling on the evening as she sang songs such as Home To Me in the front of the packed crowd. It was a perfect chance to showcase her music in front of what Ward Thomas described as their biggest crowd yet on tour. So after a small interval, the Southampton crowd were ready to experience the Hampshire sensations that were the first country act to achieve a number one album in the UK and made them the most successful UK country act ever. Cartwheels were written two years ago, at a session in Nashville, and you can tell that they really gasped at the chance of infusing some Nashville country music roots in to their music. On the evening they played Cartwheels, Guilty Flowers and encored with Carry You Home. This was a night not to be missed and I recommend anyone to listen to the duo when they have a chance. You couldn’t hear a pin drop at one point at Engine Rooms which is very rare which just proves how connected Lizzy and Catherine were with their audience throughout the evening.
