Mcfly | Anthology Tour Live Gig Review | 21st September (02 Academy, Birmingham)

This year I have had the chance to see some “childhood bands” and as mentioned in my other reviews, it is so surreal seeing a band, whose music that was so much apart of your younger life when growing up. Bowling for Soup at 02 Academy in Birmingham, Busted at Barclaycard Arena and recently Mcfly at 02 Academy, Birmingham on the first night off their Anthology tour.

Performing throughout September at Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London, the boys performed for 3 consecutive nights at each city, playing songs from their albums. I went on the first night of the Birmingham tour, and the setlist consisted of all songs off their debut album Room On The 3rd Floor, which included some much loved favourites like ‘5 Colours in Her Hair’ and ‘Obviously’ and some other popular songs including the laid back track ‘Love Is Easy’, classic 80s rock sounding track ‘Red’ and ending the night with ‘The Heart Never Lies’.

Room On The 3rd Floor Tracklist:
1. Five Colours In Her Hair
2. Obviously
3. Room On The 3rd Floor
4. That Girl
5. Hypnotised
6. Saturday Night
7. Met This Girl
8. She Left Me
9. Down By The Lake
10. Unsaid Things
11. Surfer Babe
12. Not Alone
13. Broccoli
I was completely mesmerised with how talented the 4 men are. Danny Jones’s stunning bluesy, husky vocals, Tom Fletcher’s striking and compelling musical talent, playing guitar, ukulele and piano, Dougie Poynter’s smooth, harmonious, euphoric bass riffs and Harry Judd’s thundering, and passionate drum riffs. It was a certainly a night to remember! You can check out video I took of ‘5 Colours In Her Hair’ below:
Do you ever remembering liking a band? But can’t remember first time you heard of them or how they rose to fame?
I always remembered hearing Mcfly on radio, TV shows, but after the tour, I suddenly thought… How? When did the boys gain recognition? Well Sometimes Wikipedia can come in very handy aha. So here a little bit of background info, if you didn’t already know…..
In 2001 Tom auditioned for Busted but lost out on a place to Charlie Simpson. But were still stunned and intrigued by his musical talents and so offered him a place on Busted ‘songwriting team. After being asked to film auditions for a new band, this was when he met now Danny Jones and they soon began some writing projects. Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd were then recruited via a classified advertisement in the NME magazine.

Then in 2004, Busted invited Mcfly to support them on tour. The following year they won the Brit Award for Best British Pop Act. Their debut double platinum album Room On the 3rd Floor, debuted at number 1 in UK album tour, this lead to them becoming the youngest band to have an album debut at No.1 – a title taken from The Beatles.

(I really wish I had seen McBusted live now aha!)

4 lovely men where their stunning music talents has lead them to become a band full of music history. Thank You for an awesome childhood! The Anthology tour was phenomenal! Hopefully see you at a concert again soon!
