“right now,” the first single from Seattle’s arms around the world is the sound of curiosity turning into a roar.
At its heart, “right now” is a song about hunger: for everything, all at once, all the time. With its rough, physical edge, pushing forward with a sustained, abrasive drive that nods to Berlin-era Bowie. The repetition is relentless. It builds a momentum that feels almost impossible to step away from, a dark, restless rush that captures the frantic pulse of the moment we’re living in.
What lifts it from intensity into something genuinely moving is the contrast. Rimmerman’s vocals, meshed with backing harmonies, float over all that grit with an almost dreamlike beauty, and the push and pull between the two is utterly hypnotic. Beneath the noise there’s something tender and exposed, a quiet recognition that wanting is never really about the thing we want, but about the ache of reaching, and what happens when we finally ask for more.
If “right now” is the first glimpse of new album ‘connection’, then it promises to be a deeper, looser and more instinctive record. After the promise of the debut, this feels like arms around the world truly finding their voice, and it’s a thrilling thing to hear.
