Every band writes at least one song about an ex who underestimated them. Not every band gets it right. The Now might have, with ‘Did You Miss Me?’, the new single and the sixth taste of the band’s second album, ‘Moments in Motion’.
Describing the track, the South Wales group have called it a self-assured, bold anthem, the song for the moment you finally get the last word with someone who once thought less of you than they should have. “It’s the moment you look an ex in the eye, the one who thought they were above you, and show you exactly what they lost,” the band say.
Frontman Shane Callaghan leads the track vocally, with a structure that builds from an earworm chorus into a full guitar solo before stripping back almost entirely for the final run. It’s not hard to imagine the moment translating live: The Now have spent the summer playing festival stages and, most recently, supporting Madness in Canterbury alongside Cast, The Beat and The Ordinary Boys, following past dates with Reef, Florence Black, and a slot at the Isle of Wight Festival.
