The Prestigious 2026 MOBO Awards celebrated its 30th anniversary at Manchester’s Co-Op live last week, assembling a range of winners and performances from the likes of some of the UK’s biggest stars – Olivia Dean, Myles Smith and Raye to name a few.
Hosting a vibrant celebration awarding the best of music and culture of black origin in the UK, there was one especially talked-about moment from the ceremony that became a trending topic on X – the appearance of chart-topping Afrobeats star Great Adamz – and his glitzy red-carpet outfit.
Since being selected as MOBO Alumni from the MOBO UnSung Class Of 2022 – leading to one of his most popular hits,‘Kilon So’ featuring fellow Alumni, Crae Wolf, Adamz has attended the ceremony for several years in a row, establishing his name in the community as his dominence in the Afrobeats continues to rise.
Surpassing 5 million streams on his recent album, ‘Blessed Boy’ and earning regular spots at No.1 on Music Week’s Black Music Chart – most recently with his rythmic hit ‘Jeje,’ his fusion of club-ready soundscapes and vocal depth has sky-rocketed, and now – he’s become somewhat of a fashion icon, all thanks to this year’s MOBO appearance.
Capturing the immediate attention of fans and award ceremony-goers, Adamz emerged with a striking look – a monochrome jacket embroided with sparkling gemstones, paired with a chain and smart suit trousers. The look – both smart and stand-out – sparked awave of conversation on X, with many rushing to the platform to celebrating the iconic fashion choice.
It was the glinting gemstones and the intricate detail of the jacket, mostly, that sparked a widespread fascination. It was a look that not only stood out, but a statement that aligns with his shimmering, uplifting sound and his impact within the Afrobeats genre.
“The awards show was amazing. Firstly it was great to see familiar faces and friends. But I must admit everyone was looking great. I pulled up to the red carpet and couldn’t believe the attention my jacket was having. People walked up to me and told me how much they loved my jacket and what the gem stones cost. I said it was a secret. It didn’t take long for the blogs to estimate the cost online and next thing I know I got a call to say your jacket is trending on X and is currently the second most spoken about X – I couldn’t believe it. I love to dress to impress and stand out but I didn’t expect to be trending online for sure!” Adamz shared excitedly.
Much to his amusement, it wasn’t just the UK that caught a glimpse of his talked-about appearance. “Just got a national tv in Nigeria to ring me for an interview about my jacket lol this is funny as hell. Jacket is officially a celebrity!”
To Adamz’ delight, he also got to witness fellow Afrobeats pioneer, Tiwa Savage, take the MOBOs stage. “Overall, it was a great night! I saw Tiwa Savage, Chip, and Wiley perform. It was amazing.”
This arrives during a major moment forGreat Adamz, who is currently No.1 on Music Week’s Black Music Chart with his hit single ‘Jeje’. Fresh off his brand-new collaboration, ‘Umada,’ with popular DJ Manuel Riva, he continues to redefine Afrobeats and exceed expectations delivering an endless series of chart-topping, infectious hits – all while staying true to his sound.
