‘Eye for an eye, law of retaliation’
Having been writhing around in the industry bear pit and dangling from Foucault’s pendulum since 2018, our friends in Suffer know a thing or seven about the ins and outs of this murky world.
As a result of their experience, we get the ‘Pendulum of Vengeance’ cue the eerie sounds of a Hammer Horror movie, as we brave the basement and find our intrepid heroes plying their trade.
A tale as old as time about revenge and retaliation but kicked into the here and now as they pick and poke at your psyche, hoping to make sense of the mess inside.
Under the watchful eye of my friend Dan Carter of DC Sound Attack, you can feel the creative power and passion they exude. It is not a genre to be taken lightly.
After a couple of line-up changes Suffer is Greg Hevican -vocals, Kie Whitehouse – guitar, Jack Cooper – bass, Klaudiusz Trzebuniak – guitar and Jack Kent on drums, there must be someone on lead shovel, I swear someone is getting buried tonight.
‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord’
I love how the band have captured human nature, specifically the idea of action first and talk later. How we all let anger get the better of us, it is a most primal instinct that we have. With his vocals lovingly abraded with sandpaper, Greg embodies exactly what we feel. We don’t have that requisite snarl factor, more Brillo pads needed, I think.
Behind the thirst for revenge, simmers a more gentle and warming sensation which would allow the aggrieved parties to sit and talk before exacting a response that they may regret later.
Maybe it is time to lay down our arms.
As the door creaks open, Edgar Allan Poe, commands the oscillator through broken jaw and open sores, quoth the raven, nevermore!
With the pendulum of vengeance coming to a mosh pit near you very soon, you can tune in at 5pm on release day to see the official video or suffer the consequences and be damned.
