Paul Archer talks stomping new single ‘Fear Destroyer’!

When did the initial idea for your latest single ‘Fear Destroyer’ come together?

The initial idea for Fear Destroyer came together around July 2024 when I met up with the wonderful Mr. Colin Harper who is a well known Irish writer, journalist, musician and force of nature who has been my mentor through this solo album project following Colin having seen a solo performance I gave at an art exhibition I was doing with my father where my father and myself were both exhibiting our art at Castle Espie Wildlife & Cultural Centre. (My father is a hugely talented fine artist and I am an abstract expressionist artist). Colin suggested I include a song on my new album which was written some time ago and we decided that it would be an interesting idea to re-approach the melody from a different perspective lyrically and in terms of subject matter. So I re-wrote the old song from scratch and Fear Destroyer was born.

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

Fear Destroyer is an emotive and dynamic song and has a deep sense of connection, liberation, light and deliverance at it’s very heart.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

Fear Destroyer was written in response to how my journey is changing and has moved towards real, tangible freedom from anxiety and fear to faith and belief in a loving higher power which identifies deeply with each of us and wants to heal, nurture, protect and liberate us from fear by means of profound love.

This love permeates the subatomic fabric of everything beyond even the quantum level. This song encapsulates my message to the world of the importance in the belief of one divine Creator who alleviates all suffering and offers peace and love.

This song is a joyous explosion of light, love and liberation and the process of becoming spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally whole.

Given that we all now live in the midst of war,  famine,  and climate change.   People all over the world are experiencing fear in their everyday lives.

With all of that in the forefront of my mind I began to create this composition.

I sought to translate these important realities into a sonic story of hope.

I then wrote this song with the sincere belief that this message provides hope to those who listen.

For me personally, I have a personal relationship with the Logos / Jesus Christ and this is incredibly relevant now more than ever for me.

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

I think that Fear Destroyer is in a place of it’s own and it has a singular resonance and relevance for me in journey. The song for me is a joyous explosion of light, love and liberation and is all about the process of becoming spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally whole, hence the emotive, dynamic sounds and the use of layers of guitar to build the feeling and dynamic into the choruses.

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

As we were discussing earlier it was interesting, challenging and exciting to re-evaluate the whole song from beginning to end and to re-write it and find such visceral and resonant ideas, themes and powerful spiritual nature coming through with the melody.

Why should a reader check out the track?

Again as we said earlier I think that given that we all now live in the midst of war,  famine,  and climate change.   People all over the world are experiencing fear in their everyday lives. I sought to translate these important realities into a sonic story of hope. I then wrote this song with the sincere belief that this message provides hope to those who listen.

What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?

The video was shot by the brilliant Mark Case who designed my new album which is called “Art” in Belfast on a white screen and then the fabulous Marry Waterson worked her magic interweaving the lyrical themes and concepts through the video itself!
