Phantom pop artist Hope Vista transforms on her new single “Unprecedented Metamorphosis,” out on all platforms NOW. “Unprecedented Metamorphosis” is a pulsating, thick, R&B-fused pop gem, stacked with layers of vocals that sit in a vulnerable place. She confronts an unexpected evolution through her fiery passion for pop music, ultimately realizing that expanding her wings was exactly what she needed to become the most authentic version of herself – artist and person. About the single, she says:
“Unprecedented Metamorphosis” was also unprecedented. I sort of wrote this on a whim one day when I was feeling fearful of change. I actually thought back to Hilary Duff’s debut album “Metamorphosis” and remember being so attached to this idea of evolution as a kid and how seeing her in a photo wearing wings inspired me then. Seems kind of silly now, but pop music really has shaped me, including that album, and the concept of going through a complete unexpected, but necessary, metamorphosis at this point in my life was something that I became inspired by.
She is Hope Vista; a wildly anxious soul, emboldened by the endless depths of pop music and how the contents of her brain fit into it. But as of recently, the phantom pop pioneer wondered – how will a year’s worth of recent, unexpected life changes impact her offerings as an artist? Hope Vista is very much still fueled by ice cold cans of Diet Dr. Pepper and extensive therapy, but the melancholic platform she once stood on has risen to a different level; one of introspection, privacy, and in many ways, fear.
So how does her dark, ghostly, glitchy sonic smoothie continue to transform with fear of judgment on the brain? Easy. She returns to her first love – pop music – and injects it directly into the ears of anyone with an itch for bubblegum-y, alternative-fused, intoxicating baubles.
There’s no question that Hope Vista is not afraid of high-risk evolution. But now, equipped with a fiery set of red locks, red lips, and the flaming energy of a Leo, she’s the archetype for violently kicking a foot through the wall and shedding pre-metamorphic layers.
We caught up with Hope as talked about her latest release and much more!
So how has the release of Unprecedented Metamorphosis gone down with fans so far?
It’s honestly been really unprecedented! The song has gained some traction on TikTok, and I have struggled with that app immensely for years. It’s very unpredictable. To see so many people sending me little blue butterfly emojis to represent the song’s theme has really made me happy.
How much did Hilary Duff’s debut album “Metamorphosis” inspire you to write this track?
It wasn’t so much of the album itself but the title track and the concept. I love that album from front to back, but I was a very deep thinker at a young age and I remember becoming attached to the idea of metamorphosis. I learned what that was from this album, and for some reason that’s really stuck with me over time. The fact that as human beings, we can continuously transform? And grow? And evolve? It’s genuinely fascinating, and this theme really plugged right into where I’m currently at in life.
What made you transition to pop music and will you be keeping this genre for now?
Pop music has been in my blood since I was born. I grew up in the 90’s, which is famously known for its bubblegum pop years, and that was the very first type of music I was ever exposed to. I grew up studying the structures of different pop songs like a wild woman; it was very odd to those around me, why I was meticulously studying pop songwriting at 7 years old. But I was infatuated with Max Martin and his team’s writing style, how they really fostered this genre to expand. Kristian Lundin, Andreas Carlsson, Rami Yacoub – all of the Swedish pop writers from the Cheiron Studios in the 90s. I’m digging a bit deep now, but I have been fascinated and utterly obsessed with this genre for as long as I’ve been alive. It’s staying.
Will you be likely to be releasing new music soon or an album?
I’ve been planning to release an EP this year, but I’m unsure when. I have a general timeline mapped out right now, but I’m focusing on trying to release one single a month until that becomes a bit more solidified.
Would you consider coming to the UK/Europe for a tour one day?
Of course! Always one of the goals on my list.
So you have a love of Diet Dr Pepper, if you could describe your music like a drink, what would it be and why?
I actually think Diet Dr. Pepper is a good answer to this question. It’s sweet, but it’s got a bit of a bite. I always say it’s kind of spicy, which makes perfect sense.
If you could work with any artist on a new song, who would it be?
Oh god. I don’t even know, I could probably give 50 different answers with 50 different reasons why. But I’ll choose someone that has remained consistent – Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park. A literal genius. I would give anything to be able to work with him.
