When did the initial idea for ‘Flagship’ come together?
We did a writers camp with the band and normally we jam together and record that so we can work that out later on. Now we wanted to try something else. Everybody came up with a word and Vivian made the lyrics out of that with melody in a separate room. Then we came back together again and she sang the chorus of Flagship and the rest followed. The band immediately had a vibe and idea which fitted perfectly for the song.
How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?
Flagship is a happy, energetic, outgoing, party, danceable song which you’d like to hear in the club. It has bright keys and funky guitar parts. Influences from R&B music and Boogie Funk and it has a real 70ies instrumental breakdown after the bridge.
Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?
Flagship is about an outstanding woman in the club. She inspires all the other people in the room to dance but nobody dares to come near her. She is the one everyone is looking up to. This song is a nod to female empowerment, we treat all women like flagships.
How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?
Flagship is a new unique song. We are always looking for a new sound that we didn’t hear yet so in comparison with our other songs it’s totally different.
What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?
This song basically wrote itself.
Why should a reader check out the track?
Flagship gives you that happy feeling and makes you wanna dance.
What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?
No animals were harmed while making this music and there was zero AI involved. Totally homegrown.
