POPPY AJUDHA RETURNS WITH INFECTIOUS NEW SINGLE ‘MY FUTURE’

Multi-talented singer songwriter Poppy Ajudha has unveiled her highly anticipated brand-new single ‘My Future’ (listen here). The release, featuring the singer’s distinctive genre fluid sound, sees Poppy describe being at peace with prioritising her and her future self over temporary parts of life, such as relationships. ‘My Future’ was co-written with Charlie Huggall (Ed Sheeran, Florence & The Machine), who also produced the track alongside Mike Malchicoff (Kanye West, Mark Ronson). Last night, ‘My Future’ was played for the very first time on Clara Amfo’s show on BBC Radio 1.

Speaking on the new single, Poppy says; “This song is a celebration of putting my dreams and aspirations first and being able to revel in the joy of being my authentic self. A major theme in my life is that people may come and go but I’ll always have my music, it’s my most important constant, and will always be my first love. I wrote this song when I felt so focused on my dreams that everything else felt like a distraction. Sometimes you have to be selfish to work out what you want but unfortunately not everyone in your life will get that. I want people to hear this song and know that no person or thing can stand in the way of their dreams. We all need a loving support system but ultimately, no one can fill your cup like you can!”

Poppy has also shared the official music video for ‘My Future’ (watch here). The energetic video, directed by NWSPK, shows Poppy performing in varying scenes as she blossoms into the best version of herself.

The release of ‘My Future’ marks the beginning of a new era for Poppy. An independent artist with major ambitions, Poppy is known for using her creative output as a vessel to explore important themes and societal topics. Whilst this is still the case, the new music offers a further insight into Poppy’s personal life and relationships, whilst also broadening her sound and direction. Less obsessed with people pleasing and fitting in, ‘My Future’ and its unapologetic personality sits comfortably among Poppy’s existing discography and opens the door to a new era.

With several headline tours under her belt and special performances at Glastonbury, SXSW, New York Jazz and beyond, there’s much more to come from Poppy. Alongside this, Poppy has garnered support and high praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Clash Magazine, The Face, The Fader, and many more. Aside from her incredible musical ability, Poppy’s creative talents thrive in the fashion and arts world. Poppy was invited by Naomi Campbell to perform at her ‘Fashion for Relief’ event, opened Virgil Abloh’s ‘Figures of Speech’ exhibition, and has worked alongside brands such as Dior, Delvaux, and Nike. In 2022, Poppy performed at the Venice Biennale as part of an exhibition by award-winning artist Sonia Boyce – the first black woman to represent Britain at the event. Poppy Ajudha’s return and release of new single ‘My Future’ solidifies her position as an essential voice within British music. Listen to ‘My Future’ here
