Interview: Solnedgang

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

I’m still working on the album, but the first single, Nornir, has gone down really well!

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

The artwork is actually based on a tattoo that I’ve got. I was struggling to think of what to have as the cover, as I wanted some sort of abstract illustration that related to Norse mythology in some way, and I kept coming back to this tattoo that I designed and in the end I just went for that.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

It would have to be someone with a slightly different sound I think. Maybe Svalbard or Wolves in the Throne Room.

How has your latest release been received?

Mindblowingly well! I’ve had extremely positive feedback, which has been really encouraging and flattering.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

‘Nornir’ is inspired by the Norns of Norse mythology (the mysterious creatures who decide the fates of humans), and Valkyries (who choose which fallen warriors go to Odin’s Valhalla or Freyja’s Folkvangr). The track, and the album as a whole, explores the afterlife in Norse mythology, and there is a personal connection to the topic as well.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

I have no plans to play live at all unfortunately!

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

If I do end up playing live there are plenty of places I’d like to play, but I’ve been to The Dome in London a few times and I really like that venue – it somehow seems intimate and spacious at the same time, and the sound is great.

What else can we expect from you in 2023?

The album should be out early next year, and I’m planning to release another single before that.
