Lost Dogs of Ultimo – Single Interview Feature

When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?

In December 2022 I started to get the idea of recording my old busker’s song list from my reckless 20s and Identity by X Ray Specs was a great song easy to play on acoustic guitar . But I wanted to ramp it up with my skills as a studio artist.

How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?

Identity was a song originally recorded by X Ray Specs with a power punching Punk delivery. and screaming sax riff by Laura Logic I wanted to retain that live edge and vibe with the recording and changed it with a little Ska reggae bass line.

Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?

Identity and the lyrics are just as relevant today as it was in 1977/78 Its a crisis in our community young people are always trying to navigate and work out who the fuck they are where they fit in and wanting to be loved and noticed by their peers and struggle emotionally when that doesn’t happen

How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?

I’ve never released a cover song before this year and I wanted to pay respect to Polystyrene an incredible Artist and Vocalist without copying the original song but presenting how their music influenced My musical development.

What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?

Keeping the energy of the song in the recording process allowing a few little mistakes to remain to highlight the dynamic and texture.

Why should a reader check out the track?

If you don’t know who Polystyrene is or X Ray Specs are in the context of Music Histology here’s your chance to increase your knowledge base. Have a listen to our version then get Xray Specs original

What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?

I had the great pleasure of having Madam Nightingale a Melbourne based Artist  collaborate and sing on this track with Me and  put on a great  performance as the Punk Princess that she is
