Altar Of Sacrifice

‘Far from dead, far from alive.’

Back in February I reviewed a single called ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ the band was Suplex, and now I bring you the EP, released about a month later. Forgive me as I am still playing catch up on some of the releases.
Opening with ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath’ we begin to understand what we are in for, six tracks that will drag you over a gravel pit, grazing your knees, your elbows and all points in between, you sit up – barely- nursing your wounds to the tune of ‘Wallflower Suicide’ emitting gentler emo moments to ease the soreness.
The chorus of ‘New Joy’ bursts through your senses, a exquisite mix of Silverstein, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Dashboard Confessional, a unique blend, sending you skydiving into oblivion. There is a grace and opulence amongst the fire and frenzy, there is a static transmission from 3.19 onwards in ‘Lock And Key’, which features State Faults. It fills you with a tingling dread, as you wonder what will happen next. The tension is palpable yet intoxicating, you are fearful yet thrilled by the scope of sounds and the distribution of energy here, the mix of layers and textures that allude to a fractious actuality.
We live, we learn from ‘The Friction Of Existence’ a chance to right the wrongs, our survival seen through the songs we hold dear, power on with ‘Salted Steps’ and set the stage, the altar for the performance of your life.
