It’s In The Bin

Remember the excitement of going through the bins of the record shop, your weekly trip was full of anticipation to find that next great 45”  or Album to listen to at the turntables in the store, then buy that one vinyl record of with that new song  you just had to have.  Sadly those days are gone for the most part, but you can still flip through those Virtual Bins via the various streaming services out there.  Here is a list with links of Musicians that you need to be on the lookout for whilst navigating the usually overwhelming plethora of music that comes out on a daily basis.   Make sure to look for them all on social media too.

The phrase that Music is  a universal language has never been more poignant  than with the latest tract from Michel (Michael) Francois with his latest track Pigments, a call for what the world as a whole needs, more of  tolerance for all no matter of culture or skin colour.  Michel’s new song and music video pushes you to look at the world from another angle, exposing the core meaning of tolerance, friendship and love.

The inspiration for the song is best explained by Michael (Michel)

I am a humanist and racism revolts me.  Skin colour doesn’t matter.   We are all human beings and Brothers.  Our heart beats for peace all over the world.  Our actions do a lot of good to all our friends who receive our help and if my songs can warm people’s hearts and awaken consciences I would be delighted.   Pigments ma was inspired by the misery, poverty and indifference of our political leaders in all countries.

With a style that few artists have, the Western African inspired RnB/ Pop AfroBeats  music of Meaku belts out another hit that will undoubtedly put you in the “chill and sexy vibes’ ‘ zone! The follow up to his first viral hit “Hybrid Vibe” will continue his trend of gaining loyal lyrical aficionados to his blended musical prowess.

Best put by Meaku ““What’s up With it” is a phrase, used as a term of endearment, in this case an expression of pure interest with the intention of setting the mood of love. I reached out to my long time friend Wali Ali Jr., the talk box Master to create a classic West Coast Hybrid Vibe, we got in my studio and came up with this fun, sexy, feel good, summer anthem that takes you on a journey of nostalgic vibes

From Near Fatal Car Crash to emerging as a Freestyle Hip Hop Artist, with a dash of Metal Mash up “That fast car crash”, the enthralling story  of Smokerface Chris Clay will leave you gobsmacked.  The fact that he survived and awoke with a new talent of vocal prowess is a true testament to the innate drive to survive and endure. ~  His new song “Don’t Wake Up” focuses on hard times that we have all been through.  Chris’s life changing experience has led him to share passions and stories around the globe via his music.

Best put in his own words… In 2003 during Hurricane Isabelle in Hampton, Va where I am from and was living then, I was driving up the road my car spun out, hit the car head on and ejected.  Truck behind me, who was my best friend, didn’t see me ejected and ran over my head.  My eyeball fell out and was hanging by the cord laying on the road next to me unconscious.  The ambulance tried to revive me but couldn’t, declared me dead and the newspapers the next day said I was dead because they put their clamps up and declared me dead.  After they did that, putting their equipment up and declaring me dead, I just came back to life on my own but was still unconscious.  I was in a coma for a month and then rehab for a couple more months recovering.  At the time I was in engineering in community college and I was gonna transfer to a bigger college after two years.  This put a halt to that plan since I was in the hospital for a few months, they disenrolled me from college classes.  After the few months recovering in rehab and the hospital, they let me out and still took me like 5 more years recovering and getting my head back together until I got back in college in 2007 at UVA-Wise,

Best in his own words…

I started my musical journey in 2004 after acquiring my first harmonica. I quickly fell in love with the instrument and began trying to emulate the riffs of Kim Wilson, Charlie Musselwhite and Ronnie Shellist. I put out an ad on Musolist where I met Calgary musicians Colin Braithwaite and Jonas Claesson. We would go on to form the Calgary Blueshounds, a six piece blues band which had a bit of local success and endured several member changes before disbanding in 2010. Colin and I would go on to head a few more projects including MMI and Soulshine before COVID hit in 2020.

After COVID decimated the local Calgary jam scene, I decided to step back from live performance and concentrate on a new solo recording project called BluesmanDon (a nickname given to me by Colin Braithwaite). The result is a collection of original music, a fusion of blues, folk and rock, completely written, performed and recorded by myself.  Work Hard, Blues Hard!

When he was in  the band SHINOCO  That is what changed everything forRonzoi: “For the first time ever, I started writing songs for myself to sing. Dr Boyfriend was a huge inspiration, his raw and pure style was just brilliant and caused me to step up and really go for it on the songs I was to sing for the band. I spent my entire career backing up other people, and finally I got shoved out into the spotlight. It became up to me to front the band, and carry the show.  SHINOCO gave me the confidence to go out and do my Acoustic Rock & Roll Revue with nothing but my acoustic guitar between me and the audience.”

See What’s On With Top of The Charts Dance Diva Carmen Jackson. A mashup of Jazz and Dance, her  dance song “Where Do We Go From Here ~ The Remix”  will have you dancing the night away!  Carmen echoes the vibes of Lisa Stansfiled to Sade with that dash of Diana Ross.  Carmen Jackson’s debut song also hit the top 50 of the Urban/Hip Hop and Indie Charts along with No. 2 on the Cross Over and Dance Charts via Starfleet Record Pool Charts.

CARMEN JACKSON is a Detroit Soul and Jazz singer with quite a pedigree. Her uncle was the legendary Jazz vibes man, Milt Jackson and her father was the percussionist Manley Jackson. Both gave Carmen every encouragement to pursue a music career. She’s been a mainstay on the Detroit Jazz circuit but right now she’s busy promoting her single, “Where Do We Go From Here” . Our super soul sleuths have discovered that the song was originally released in 2018. Ms  Jackson says she created it on the back of a complicated relationship. She says: “I wrote this song, because I was in love at the time and was in 7 years too deep, so I needed to know ‘“Where Do We Go From Here” and not waste any more time, because it’s so precious!”. Many will know where she’s coming from there!

Mike Allen takes you back to the time when Synth Ruled.  In an age where most of the music coming out sounds all the same Mike gives you something refreshing yet familiar that’s not the same old usual lick. Music brings back and creates memories, when you listen toit Mike Allen’s pure organic retro inspired Synthwave will do just that.

A bit about the artist in his own words…I come from a musical family and can remember tinkering on my mom’s baby grand piano at around 5 years old. I started playing violin in the 3rd grade and guitar and bass by high school when I formed my first band called Sunday Flood in 1995. I ventured out into solo work in 2001, released my first record in 2003 and have been writing, producing and mixing my own music ever since. influences throughout the years have included nine inch nails, depeche mode, the cure, ned’s atomic dustbin, catherine wheel, deftones, aphex twin and many, many more.

The cover art for my latest release titled E. Previn, who is a woman playing chess by herself, is in reference to me and the fact that I’ve grown more and more accustomed to doing and enjoying most things in life by myself.  My main inspiration for music is living life, plain and simple. I’ve touched mostly on darker subject matters like mental illness, addiction and isolation but also more external topics like religion and politics.

The blues rule it’s Bluesy Pop Rock riffs infused with jazz and harmonica sound from  Bob Jeter. It’s a little of that Don Henly and Tom Petty vibe.  Bob Jeter’s music reassures us that Pop music that respects its roots in the Blues will endure through fad genres. Hailing from Richmond, VA Bob’s musical journey is quite unique.

Best in his own words Bob explains his music journey …”I first performed in public at my High School Talent Show in Richmond, VA (my hometown) with my best friend Sonny who played the guitar. At that time, I was just singing and didn’t pick up the guitar until several years later. We performed Hello Mary Lou made famous by Ricky Nelson – so we are talking about ancient history. Anyway, we went over big and everyone liked the performance so after that I got a little serious about the music. We formed a band called The Futuras because our drummer Bennie Owens had a Ford Falcon Futura car and thought the name sounded groovy. LOL  So it   was Sonny, Bennie. another dude Bill Davidson (lead guitar) and yours truly on vocals who formed the group. We started playing around and got pretty popular even outplaying some of the top local bands during those Battle of the Bands shows. Even got on a local TV show – Teen Tempo. We were playing covers of Mo-Town hits mostly  (more ancient history) and other stuff the kids could dance to. After High School, I got a regular job and stopped performing for a while but did pick up the guitar. I had played the trumpet in Junior High but the instrument didn’t suit me. You have to have the lips and the wind to make it happen like it should. But I had always wanted to play the guitar but it wasn’t until my late teens I actually got a decent guitar to practise on. Anyway, after college and a few jobs, I decided to go to Europe. My friends told me, once they heard me play guitar and sing, to go to California but I had studied History in college and wanted to see the Old World. It was an education! If I had gone to California back then I would not be here now to write this down. LOL”

“Know What You Want” the latest from the DML Conspiracy has echoes of not only the Beatles who inspired the sound but leaning also towards  Paul McCartney and the Wings. Beginning with the  1, 2, 3 opening which was synonymous with the iconic band this song echos to the fun filled lyrics accompanied by guitar solos all the way through the end of the song.  The song will have your foot tapping from the start  up til the end, then you want to stream it again and again!

Best put by DML… I knew this actress once who I was really close with. She came from modest means, like myself. But one day she caught her lucky break and the world seemed to open up for her. It was a beautiful experience with all the excitement and energy of Hollywood. But Hollywood has a darkness about it hiding in the shadows of the bright lights. It didn’t take too long before the starlet became the victim.  She got sucked into the fame machine.  To be honest, It takes a certain type of personality to navigate the waters between fame and success and come out unscathed. She became the prey because she was unaware of her surroundings and she trusted the people that you’re often warned about. She partied at all the exclusive hotspots and got into the LA nightlife. She wanted it all because she came from nothing. She began to feel she was owed and she wore her false sense of entitlement like a prom dress. But I’m the end, the doors opened for somebody new and she found herself chasing the light to stay relevant. I was with her for a large part of this journey, but eventually even I was cast aside so she could pursue her career. I watched as fame consumed her, and then I tried to pick her up when there was nothing left. But by then, she was not the same person. She was used up and bitter.  It’s a cycle that continues to repeat itself.
