NOSEBLEED

‘DANCE WITH THE DEVIL’

(TNSrecords)

9/10

YOU WILL DANCE.

Holy flying fish, this is one hot bitch mackerel of an album from the UK garage Punx Nosebleed. There are bits n pieces from a superabundance of alternative genres, which gives the entire release a caught-in-machine-gun-fire feel. The opener‘ Dance With The Devil’ is a spat-out Hives meets Billy Talent dust-kicking rock ‘n’ roll trick and treat. The deliberately loose and chopping guitar on ‘Bad Magic’ gets pulled from left to right with enough pregnant pauses to cause spontaneous funky Jagger chicken dance moves, while ‘Lost And Found’ has some disturbingly on-point ivory tinkling in and amongst the titty twizzling riffs. Rockabilly raises its’s flattop on the motoring ‘Let It Go’ before ‘Live Die’ kicks off with a ‘My Cherona’ intro and morphs into a Queens of The Stoneage on amphetamines flow. Once more, the simplicity of the tune just works its way into your hips, head and soon-to-be bouncing souls.

A twisted ‘Short Sharp Pain In The Neck’ is followed by a Tiger Army kissed ‘All I Know’ and another floor-filling beer spiller ‘I Don’t Know’. The pace is ramped up for the lashed-out ‘I Got A Feeling’, and before you can draw breath, the Happy Days horror of ‘Round And Round’ is flicked out. The final duo of the glam pomp and surgical slice of  ‘Under The Knife’ and a slower, dare I say more reflective (I put a spell on you) ‘Make Up Your Mind’. Twelve pocket rockets of lucky dip, saloon swigging, horsewhipping and genre-crushing thoroughbred Punk ‘n’ Roll. Sit on it.
