When did the initial idea for your latest single come together?
At its beginning it started early 2021. It took a lot longer for it to come together but I would say it was around October 2021 that it started to take shape as a song.
How would you describe the track, to a reader that is unfamiliar with the band?
The Whispers Of Sleep is a mixture between heavy riffs and melodic piano. It is us as Virtue In Vain, showcasing what is to come next and telling a story with many different sides.
Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the track?
The Whispers Of Sleep is about a nightmare that a member of the band had. It is about being unsure of whether you are awake or asleep and so what is really happening or all in your mind. This song is built upon that feeling at that moment. The song also incorporates how our dreams/nightmares are created from our subconscious and how it makes moments from our past, be it places or people, feel so real.
How would you say that the track compares to anything you’ve done before?
It builds upon what we did in our last EP Dusk // Dawn. We incorporated elements we feel fits our sound and pushed it a little bit further to see if we could.
What was the hardest part about putting it together, and why?
It was writing it. We wrote the song over lockdown so it was tricky to get around that hurdle when we usually write together. It was challenging but we have grown from it.
Why should a reader check out the track?
The song really sets out our sound and were we are going. If you enjoy metalcore and the progressive side to the genre. Then this is the song to listen to.
What else can you tell us about the track, that we haven’t covered in this interview?
We spent a lot of time on every aspect. For example, until about 2 months before recording, the song had a clean, space-like guitar part for verse 2. So we really changed a lot of aspects up until we recorded it.
