The 1975 emit warmth and a refined sophistication on new album Being Funny In A Foreign Language

The 1975 have returned with the 11-track masterpiece Being Funny In A Foreign Language, which is available on all major platforms now via Dirty Hit.

The alternative quartet are back and boasting their unique sonic colour better than ever.

There are many layers to forage through on this record – a bountiful feast of texture and engaging songwriting emerges, effortlessly inspiring. From the flirty and bright to the gritty and introspective, Being Funny In A Foreign Language has it all.

Shifting away slightly from the more abstract presentation of recent years, this album contains premium pop that swells and grows as you listen.

‘Oh Caroline‘ has a signature feel, a sound that captures the energy featured on the group’s second studio album. This is a track that is a testament to their relevancy and brand strength.

Upbeat, groove-along tracks are interspersed with doses of gentle. Stripped back songs like ‘All I Need To Hear‘ and the delectably smooth jazz piece ‘Human Too‘ offer range and highlight the group’s capacity for duality.

‘Wintering‘ is a driving-home-for-Christmas blizzard of a song that is equal parts cheeky and cheery, with frontman Matty Healy giving his mother Denise Welch a shoutout: “Now mum’s not a fan of that line about her back / She said it makes her sound frumpy and old / I said, “Woman, you are sixty-four years old.”

The 1975 know how to do cohesive all while keeping it charming and fresh. Striking classy and funky, this feel-good record is certain to invigorate and excite.
