Resilient rock group Pulled Apart By Horses are returning after a five year break with their fifth studio album Reality Cheques, out 30 September 2022 via Alcopop! Records.
The Leeds group are a tightly-knit rock band making music that thrills and menaces, creating songs that contain sucker-punch riffs and zinging choruses.
When writing for Reality Cheques, the band made a collective decision to create a set of songs that were minimal, simple, direct, and delivered with rawness and urgency.
The biggest change in the band’s approach to date sees Hudson ditching his guitar and focusing solely on vocals – their trademark duelling guitars may have been a signature of PABH’s sound across their previous four albums, but cutting their line up back to one guitar, bass, drums and vocals has given the band a refreshed, leaner feel.
Commenting on the new approach, vocalist Tom Hudson said: “The fat was trimmed! We spent months playing the songs for the new album in our practice space and on a small ‘up close and personal’ UK tour to set them in stone. We headed to the Nave studio in Leeds off the back of that tour and captured the tracks live, tour tight and locked in!”
‘Pipe Dream‘ is a strong and solid opening to the album, rattling with industrial energy as it meanders towards an enticing build. Something between tortured and chasing, it hits a simultaneous feeling of push and pull.
‘First World Problems‘ packs bite and a raw, unbridled truth, with ‘Sleep In Your Grave‘ succeeding the track smoothly in all its gnarly glory.
‘Rinse And Repeat‘ is full throttle, laced with punk attitude and anthemic rebellion, and tracks like ‘Devil Inside‘ showcase a sleek and mature approach all while sporting grungy and gritty charm.
Pulled Apart By Horses are reaching new heights of rock excellence with Reality Cheques, pushing the boundaries and pouring earnest emotions into their artistic sound.
