Single Review: Ludlow Creek “Finding Our Way Back”

There is something magical about listening to music written and
performed by five of the closest friends we can imagine. With Ludlow
Creek this is exactly what we get, high-spirited performance infused
with that mojo that only comes from a deep connection with each other
both personally, professionally, and musically. On the latest single
release, Finding Our Way Back we feel this magic once again. This latest
offering is a Country jam over a funky blues shuffle. Couple this with
harmonizing vocals (from all five members), that are tight and well kept
in key, we have a musical exposition of a distant spiritualism that
helps everyone find that elusive way back to where we belong. After many
metaphorical instances and colorful imagery, we are given the finite
power which unites friends, lovers, and family; “Music is my friend,
it’s all I need”. Musically Finding Our Way Back is a jam. It’s a
gathering of like-minded players delivering all that mojo and energy
into one project, but with a civilized tone. The call and response style
of articulation contrasts the vocal thesis with blazing guitar fills,
and a dynamic piano interlude which has voices all their own. Speaking
of voicing, listeners should pay special attention to the main guitar
solo, as the guitarist delicately shapes the vocal structure into his
patterns. This voicing is tastefully executed while maintaining a high
skill value performance. Although it is clearly not overdone, the
guitars become yet another voice to which we can sing along. Throughout
this jam is that main blues souffle hook, which although simple enough,
is visceral in nature, always being left with tension that can not be
resolved by that riff. Here Ludlow Creek explores many musical concepts
to resolve each cadence with ascending and descending patterns to grab
the listener and suck them right inside the jam space with these
players.

Finding Our Way Back would be an excellent fit for any Country, Blues,
Rock, Middle-Of-The-Road, or Adult Contemporary commercial radio
playlist. The infectious hook of the main melodies united by the
brilliant overtones of the harmonizing chorus would ensure plenty of
playback and interest. Every instrument is well-defined within the mix,
all the overtones carry out over the listening space majestically, and
as should have been mentioned before, the deep in-the-pocket groove the
drums connect with the bass give Finding Our Way Back a sing-along,
dance-along quality lacking from, what Ludlow Creek identify as “modern
Classic Rock”. It’s the magic of friendship, the power of extended
family, and the connection we feel with others we can not work without
that make this track so enjoyable. I dare you to try and visualize this
song being sung without a wide smile on their faces.
