The city of Southampton has gained a formidable reputation in recent years for producing a whole host of enigmatic punk bands, who boast both emotion and energy in equal measure – and the latest edition to that esteemed pantheon, Hunting Hearts, are no exception.
Their pride in flying the LGBT+ flag in the alternative music space is plastered all over this band’s ethos – and, indeed, their latest single, ‘Anybody Else’. The track tells a bittersweet tale of battling for self-love and acceptance in a world that seems intent on making you feel isolated and alone, which makes it feel both resonantly universal and poignantly personal all at once. Add on top of that a dash of rollicking punk rock guitar tones and a fist-flailing chorus, and you’re definitely on to a winner with this one!
The even better news? If you like what you hear, then a great deal more will be coming your way as of midnight on the 22nd of April 2022, when Hunting Hearts will drop their debut album, for which ‘Anybody Else’ is the title track. But, if you can’t wait that long, then, continuing the spirit of their city-mates in Creeper, there is a whole world of lore for fans to delve into. The mission involves the conglomerate of privileged billionaires whom make up InsidiCORP, and their evil plan to censor and destroy the wellbeing and happiness of the subjugated working masses. Not that that seems to be standing in the way of Hunting Hearts’ ambitions, with a blistering album release show planned at The Joiners in their hometown on the day of the album’s release – should they defeat InsidiCORP, that is…
