Brighton’s loudest duo Blood Red Shoes (Laura Mary Carter and Steven Ansell,) are back with their sixth album Ghosts on Tape. Written in their newfound home of LA, the new tracks present the band’s leap into new terrain sonically as well.
The haunting and hypnotic single ‘MORBID FASCINATION’ released late October 2021 just in time for Halloween gave fans a taste of the soundscape that Ghosts on Tape has to offer. Dark and mature, it is an album for the outsiders of society, entering an unsettling new world. Many songs on the record are told in character, exploring the dark psyche of those at the very pinnacle of outsiderdom: serial killers. Musically and emotionally it is their most complex and imaginative work yet, with a gothic development on the Blood Red Shoes sound.
Steven of Blood Red Shoes shared more about the album’s twisted tale:
“Ultimately this album is an invitation, it’s us saying, this is our world, these are our darkest thoughts and feelings – our ghosts – caught on tape. You are welcome to join us. Come and embrace the strange”.
