Album Review: Beartooth – Below

Ohio based hardcore rock band Beartooth are releasing their fourth studio album ‘Below’ on 25 June via Red Bull Records!

Frontman Caleb Shomo said: “Below is by far my favourite album I’ve made to date. It

covers the dark side of dealing with mental strain during the last year.

“I gave it all I had — musically and lyrically. Is it too dark? Possibly, but it was as honest as I could be about how I felt. I hope everyone is ready to strap in for a wild ride of head banging and rocking.”

The album opens with title track ‘Below’. Often referred to as a “pure distillation of rage”, ‘Below’ explores the darker realms of metal music, making for a wildly cathartic start which is carried through to following track ‘Devastation’.

Ever feeling like the world is against you? Listen to ‘Fed Up’. It is a metal infused rant fuelled by an attacking drumbeat, making every issue as poignant as the last. This song is guaranteed to give you that release that you so desperately need! Paired with the intensity of following track, ‘Dominate’ prepare to let go of any previously held tension and truly let loose.

‘Hell Of It’ is like a smack in the face with its chaotic riffs and vicious vocals. It is sure to grab your attention right from the get-go and is soon to be a classic Beartooth anthem. Followed by ‘I Won’t Give It Up’ it’s obvious that the energy on this album is relentless!

Closing ‘Below’ is the aptly named ‘The Last Riff’. This epic instrumental track is the perfect send-off and calls for a celebratory headbang or two! Beartooth’s sound is without rival, making the most thunderous of metal catchy and melodic whilst maintaining every deep and dark meaning. They are (as usual) a force to be reckoned with!
