Chapter and Verse share new video for ‘Something in the Water’

In a world that is seemingly becoming darker, Chapter and Verse are remaining defiantly optimistic. In their post-pandemic return, the new single ‘Something in the Water’ is just as deeply introspective as they’ve ever been and their resiliently inquisitive approach permeates through their music, their attitude and their growing fan-community ‘The New Breed’. The quintet are also playing this year’s Reading and Leeds festival despite the odds being against the festival scene for the past year and a half.

“We’re so well connected nowadays that it can sometimes feel like there’s nothing but bad news; like there’s always a new calamity waiting round the corner. ‘Something in the Water’ is a song about defying the sinking feeling that can give you. It’s about understanding that there are practical things that can be done to free yourself from that state of mind.”

Recorded almost entirely from their bedrooms, ‘Something in the Water’ is the result of Chapter and Verse trying to push their artistic boundaries and doubling down on their explorative side. Whilst pushing alt-rock’s confines by polarizing the fierce and frenetic ‘Bad Blood’ against fan-favourite sing-along ‘Sweet Time’, it’s enigmatic frontman Josh Carter’s unique and impassioned vocal that ties Chapter and Verse’s eclectic sound together.

“Whilst it’s been tough for many people, the pandemic gave us the time to reevaluate and in a certain sense to rediscover what we love about being a band. You don’t know what you’ll miss until it’s taken away from you and we’ve re-entered the music world with a new sense of enjoyment.”

As ‘The New Breed’ grows in size and stature, the release of their ‘Love and Error’ EP saw the London quintet quickly rise to the forefront of the underground alt-rock scene, landing festival slots at Reading and Leeds, 2000 Trees, Y Not and Teddy Rocks. Chapter and Verse have racked up the road miles, touring with bands such as Hellions, Courage My Love, Dream State, Press to MECO and have recently returned from their exceptionally received debut headline UK tour, including a sold-out New Breed Event/Headline performance in London.

“Touring is easily one of our favourite parts of being a band and like many others we’ve missed it greatly during lockdown. There’s a real sense of community at the Chapter and Verse live shows so we can’t wait to reconnect with people again. That said, our first show back is Reading & Leeds which is literally the biggest show we’ll have ever played, so it could be a rude awakening!”

Following on from their sonically diverse ‘Glow’ EP, the ‘Love & Error’ EP continues to showcase exactly what Chapter and Verse are capable of. With a growing community of fans, the band have created an interactive way to keep fans up to date with the latest CV news. Fans who have signed up to the WhatsApp ‘New Breed’ group will be part of the broadcast list for exclusive content, first-listens, pre-sales, a personalised relationship with the band and much, much more.

Welcome to the New Breed.
