My Immortal, from Evanescence, gets a new version by Aline Happ

One of the most beautiful ballads of the 2000s, the song “My Immortal”, by Evanescence, was covered by Aline Happ. The singer, songwriter and music producer is inspired by Celtic and Gothic music and creates the arrangements, produces, mixes and masters her tracks, available on her YouTube channel. Evanescence was one of the main influences of Lyria, Aline’s band, considered one of the biggest Symphonic Metal bands from Brazil, and this cover song was requested by her fans.

“It’s a beautiful song and a lot of fans asked me to record it. Evanescence was the first heavier band, with a woman singing and mixing popular and erudite vocals that I listened to. I  thought ‘one day I will have a band like this’. Years later, I founded Lyria”, says Aline Happ.

Officially released in 2003, “My Immortal” is part of the debut album “Fallen”. The song also appears on the EP “Evanescence” (1998) and the demo “Origin” (2000) in alternative versions. Very well received by critics, the song was nominated for a Grammy in 2005, and came in #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Written by former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody, the lyrics were inspired by the death of his grandfather and talks about “a spirit that stays with you after their death and haunts you until you really want it to go away”, as it is said in the credits of the album Fallen.

The version of “My Immortal” is part of a series of songs that Happ performs on her YouTube channel, which already has covers of Rihanna, Linkin Park, Iron Maiden, and even, The Mandalorian. Some of the songs are also available on major streaming and download platforms. About to launch her debut album, Aline Happ warns fans: “You can expect songs of different styles. I am finalizing the album, there are only two songs left now. The album will be released later this year.”

The videos posted on Aline Happ’s channel are sponsored by her fans on Patreon. Known worldwide, Lyria is a Symphonic Alternative Metal band founded in 2012 by Aline Happ. Since then, the group has released two albums via crowdfunding support, Catharsis (2014) and Immersion (2018) and played in several Brazilian cities and also online concerts for all over the world.
