Interview: InRegalia

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

Vijay: Our latest release ‘S.E.V.A’ is an instrumental single and it is our first instrumental as well. It has done quite well on streaming platforms too.

Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Pete: S.E.V.A is our first ever instrumental track and it’s a song about gratitude to the people who are our support system. We wanted the artwork as well to showcase that, so the imagery you see on the single is reflective of how in India and indeed many parts of Asia, the folded hands gesture is used to communicate one’s feelings of gratitude. In our Hindi language, the word ‘seva’ translates to ‘service’ so we feel the need through this song to acknowledge and serve thanks to all these vital people in our lives. Incidentally, the acronym S.E.V.A is made up from the initials of our guitarist and the song’s composer Vijay’s family members.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Warren: If I could, I would love to work with the band TOTO. Toto has long been a favourite of mine for many reasons…their impeccable ability for melody and groove, their stellar live performances, their collective experience as being some of the top studio acts of their generation. I would love to be part of their creative process, how they go about approaching a song, piecing the different sections together. I especially follow Steve Lukather…he’s one of my all-time favourite guitarists.

How has your latest release been received?

Vijay: ‘S.E.V.A’ has got some great coverage from quite a few blogs worldwide. We kept our signature sound and it has got some great parts in between. If you do get a chance, take a listen. It’s a good blend between a Rock and a ballad.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Vijay: There is no particular meaning behind the track since its an instrumental. But it has been dedicated to the four most important members of my family, who’ve helped shape my life. Coincidentally ‘seva’ is a word in Hindi and is associated with gratitude, respect and servitude towards our loved ones and elders.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

Vijay: Given the current situation of the pandemic and especially since we’re really in a crisis at the moment, its hard to talk about tour plans. When this is over and done with, we’ll be letting our listeners and fans know about our tour plans.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

Keith: We all know the live music landscape will have changed so much by the time it returns back to normalcy. While it’s a dream come true for every musician to play the O2 arena or The Hollywood Bowl in LA, but if things fall in place, and if some of these legendary places are still around, I would love to play at the Ottobar in Baltimore. The intimate spacing and the fact that it has also hosted some big names is why I’d love to play there. It will certainly be one of the few good places to play at on our first tour.

What else can we expect from in 2021?

Saurav: Just when we thought 2020 was as bad as it could get, the second wave hit us and we’re back isolating. But with the little time that we got in between we managed to be quite productive in the writing and song arrangement process. So, in 2021 we’ve planned to put out a series of singles and then eventually the next EP. I think with time, we’ve found better chemistry and understood each other better as musicians and that has helped us directionally on this next set of songs. I won’t reveal much but we’ve been more adventurous with our musicianship and pushed ourselves a little more this time. If the world heals and it gets safe to venture outside more, we’ll start working on a set of music videos too. Here’s to hoping for a better year for music… cheers!
