Album Review: Enter Shikari – ‘Moratorium (Broadcasts From The Interruption)’

AWaking up to a surprise album from Enter Shikari on April 16th was absolutely not what I, or anyone else really expected. The boys pulled a Folklore move on us and I am here for it. It’s an amazing way to celebrate the 1st birthday of Nothing is True & Everything is Possible and after over a year of no live events, a really great way to let fans experience what some of the songs off that album will sound like live.

Moratorium (Broadcasts From the Interruption) is a mixture of live at home and acoustic versions of songs from their discography. The album opens with a stunning acoustic version of “The Dreamer’s Hotel” to get those chill vibes flowing, then it’s straight into the reworked “Rat Race” that’ll send you from relaxed straight into party mode in a few seconds. The cover of “Heroes” originally by David Bowie, is just so magical. It gives a standing in the pouring rain in the middle of a street like you’re in a movie kind of mood. The biggest shock of the album is the acoustic version of “T.I.N.A” as I was very unsure how it would sound acoustically, but it’s a great contrast to the original and is probably one of my favourites. “Torn Apart” is a certified banger anyway but this version of it? Iconic. I cried on the first listen and the second and the third. It’s also great to see songs such as “Warm Smiles Do Not Make You Welcome Here” and “Anaesthetist” being rereleased as their lyrical content is probably more relevant now than when they were originally released.

This album is a cheeky side dish that goes really well with NIT&EIP. It was such a nice surprise for the fans and just proves that Enter Shikari really are the gift that keeps on giving. Completely blown away by every track, I am unable to locate the wig that has been snatched from my scalp. 5 stars, 10/10, 100/100, whatever scale you want to rate this on, it’s perfection. So grab a gin and tonic, sit back, relax and stream Moratorium.
