When did you first realise that COVID-19 was going to have an effect on your band?
Well we quite quickly got the idea. Clubs were closing and both large and small acts quickly became affected. So it was not so long into the pandemic that we understood that this might take longer than people think.
Initially, what was that whole situation like, and how did your band overcome/react to it?
As many other bands we got our scheduled gigs cancelled. And when we tried to talk to different people in the business there was not many who knew anything really. We tried to network and to prepare for new shows but as we saw no end to it we concentrated on writing new music and make our new upcoming album ready. We did get a lot of time to work on stuff that perhaps would had been held back otherwise. So we decided to work on the writing, on our sound, on the live show and on other small things that needs to be polished now when we actually had the time to do it!
How has your creative process changed as a band over the last couple of months?
Not so much, our creative process was already a bit complex. But we base all our songs on true stories. Simon, the story collector, talks to people and writes all the stories down in his book. He has got a lot down in there during these times because people has seen sides to themselves now that they did not experience before.
Simon then to as he usually does, writes a draft and we work together after that with the draft until we are satisfied.
What’s been the hardest part about writing/doing music this way?
As I said before, it didn’t change as much as perhaps other bands have had to change. We already work on different parts of the song!
What bands/artists have you been listening to over the last couple of months?
Oh, we listen to a lot of music. Really much! It depends on the mood we all are in and we have a bit of different music taste in the band but if we have to say something, well perhaps the Swedish band Lillasyster who took metal into the Swedish finals for Eurovision song contest. They didn’t win but it was refreshing to see a metal act perform!
So, what do you think you’ve learnt the most from being a band through COVID-19?
To stick together and try to adapt to the situation I guess. You cannot do live show? Well try streaming. You cannot meet your fans live. Well learn and use social meda….
What kind of effect do you think that it’s had on the music industry all together, and how excited are you to see it return to normal?
I am totally sure the music business will recover but to what end I am not sure off. I believe the business will have changed for a long time. And there is so much new things to learn here.
What tips/advice would you like to give to other bands who are also going through this?
Stick with your music, believe in your act. This will end and you will get a new chance to go back out on the road. Practice, train and stand ready when it finally happens
