Brighton four-piece Wild Cat Strike are pleased to announce that they will release their forthcoming new EP, ‘Red Brake Light Sky Sessions’, on 26th March 2021 via Small Pond.
Like for many other bands 2020 had completely ruined Wild Cat Strikes plans, and changed their planned trajectory.
With their UK & EU tours gone, with them unable to meet and continue working towards their sophomore full length release due to nationwide lockdowns, the band set their efforts to reworking their last release, and re-imagining its arrangements and instrumentation to create Red Brake Light Sky Sessions EP, out on 26th March via Small Pond.
Recorded in their individual houses in isolation, and mixed and mastered by their old drummer Joe Caple, the band traded in distortion pedals, driven bass amps, and the full potency of their usual live sound for instruments like banjos, marimbas, melodicas and violins, to look for their own melancholic connection with their listeners in a new and exciting way.
We managed to catch up with Wild Cat Strike as they talked about their upcoming EP ‘The Red Brake Light Sky Sessions‘ and more!
So how much are you looking forward to releasing your EP ‘The Red Brake Light Sky Sessions’?
Its nice to have had something to work through our the lock down and to show another side of the band. If people like them hopefully we’ll be able to performing these versions live at some point.
What’s your favourite track on this EP?
My (Danny) favourite track is Tooth Cutter part 2, I like the tempo change in it and the violin instrumental section, it has more of a country vibe, which is quite jovial and fun. We also made a video for it that plays along that feel and is quite charming.
How has the single Swamp gone down with fans so far?
Our fans have responded well, a lot of the people we know and have played with have seen this side of the band, so it’s nice to share it with a wider audience, so people can see what’s behind the distortion and effect
Can you tell us something about your upcoming EP or album no one else knows?
Ep??? Or next album?? Album will be called Gloomy Gloom. EP was recorded by our new drummer Antoine, and mastered by our old drummer Joe.
If you could work with any artist or band on a new song, who would it be why?
I’d love to make a record with Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes or with the Dessner brothers from The National, they are all multi-instrumentalists and great producers.
So it’s looking fairly positive that you will be able to start touring this year, is this something you are looking forward to do?
Yes definitely, we have missed playing shows, and having 2 big tours cancelled was awful. We want to play everywhere we can and share our music with people.
Last year was quite a tough year on the music industry, was there any time where you felt unmotivated?
Boredom is the worse thing for losing motivation and feeling uninspired. I find working towards a deadline helps, a bit of pressure forces me to make more of an effort.
What will be the first thing you all do when lockdown officially end?
Play shows/tour. But mostly go to the pub, got a lot of time to make up for.
