Single Review: The Launchers – Rainbow Children

With the anniversary of lockdown dawning, life for many of us has become, to put it simply, boring. It is a tedious task to wake up each day and face the reality of our current situation, turning on the tv to the same re-runs of Friends and Big Band Theory, staring at your computer screen for what could be days, listening to the same songs on the same chart’s day in day out.

We need something new, something unusual, something to dig us out of this Lockdown rut, something maybe from a serving (trumpet playing) member of the British Army, a Trinidadian Architect and an ex-boxer…

It is the unlikeliest of groups made even more unlikely by the fact that there are nine of them, but it could be exactly what the doctor ordered.

If you’re wanting a change, diversity or something unusual…we give you The Launchers. Now I have a sneaking suspicion that if you listen for long enough the sun actually starts to come out. Every note is a sonic shot of serotonin, rolling in a vibrancy that lockdown and the winter blues combined can’t knock.

This nine-piece band have supported legendary acts like Madness and bagged themselves a number three spot in the reggae charts for their debut single ‘Dutty Mouth’. Now, exactly one year after the national lockdown went into effect, The Launchers will be releasing their latest single ‘Rainbow Children’.

The way I would describe it is like when you are at the beach, you take a deep breath and all that fresh salty air fills your lungs. You slip off your shoes and feel the warmth of the sand slipping between your toes and you can finally kick back and chill. In less than one minute The Launchers have transported you to a place of carefree sunshine and hopefully free pina Coladas. All you need to do is press play.

Rainbow Children’ washes over you, briefly submerging you in their feel-good message of hope, love and light. It could have the most dedicated pessimist seeing the positives of lockdown life as the band encourages the spirit of re-discovering family values and the simple things in life.

It is something that The Launchers themselves have had to do after their 2020 studio bookings and festival slots had to be sacked, forcing the band to find new ways of recording and working together.

Despite having to cancel these summer plans the band are still dedicated to pushing their summer sugar rush of sound. It is near impossible to resist the connection that this refreshing, light-hearted track has to offer especially at this point in time when so many of us may need it. Their wholesome, natural ability to warm you trough music is impressive alone then with the added infectiousness of the single it is one we highly recommend checking out. So, go grab your sunglasses, plug in your speaker and chillax to the sweet sounds of The Launchers.
