Liar Liar!
As we approach the first anniversary of the ‘year of fear’ I find my friends Amongst Liars bravely throwing their lockdown hat into the ring once more. A bold move indeed, as they join the legions of musicians that have been skewered by profit over policy, as equality, justice and kindness are shown the door. Their monicker was the result of many lengthy musings and murmurings that were clever and fortuitous, using their initials, Leo, Ian, Adam and Ross. They fall into the category of modern Rock, but you know what, the single ‘Black Days’ and the B-side ‘Oceans Apart’ are both rooted in the 70’s Deep Purple type of attitude and aptitude. With a video that features all your favourite- ahem-politicians the band are ready to raise hell and raze this whole clusterfuck to the ground and start over. You my friends need to be ready to raise your fist and yell as we tackle these days of no trust (Magnum anyone?) head on, strap on your hard hat lets enjoy the punchy and crunchy sounds on offer here. There is a noticeable old school dynamic, gutsy, sturdy, dependable and true. The imagery is a cocktail of the depraved and deranged, juxtaposed with the frontline workers dedicated and loyal. Fire is the protagonist, all consuming, we see our reflections in the flames, let it burn down as too much damage has been done.
Our south coast cousins ride the crest of an ocean wave with a love song, everybody say ‘aaahhh’ as they sing of being ‘Oceans Apart’ oh the longing and belonging, the windswept hair and stunning shorelines, all set to fire-breathing vocals and incredibly passionate pounding drums and bass and vice-grip fretwork.
We have all suffered ‘Black Days’ and probably even blacker nights but we are still here, we are still standing and whilst we still can catch a breath we will challenge any affront to human decency.
Amongst Liars will be bringing the fight to your town soon, I know which side I’m on.
Amongst Liars – Black Days – out 5th March via self- release.
