New art pop icon, French Fries and Margarita, melds the highs and the lows with their upcoming debut single

Non-binary art pop icon, French Fries and Margarita, is the new kid on the block of alternative pop. Not that you would know it to look at them. They hold themselves like an absolute pro, complete with huge sunglasses to block the paparazzi who will inevitably be drawn to their mystique.

That’s the other thing about this act – their identity remains a complete mystery. Not only is their face half-covered by the sunglasses, but the only way we know how to refer to them is… French Fries and Margarita. And, surely, that can’t be a real name… or can it?

We know that French Fries and Margarita is a character who comes from Earth – they said as much on their Twitter (@frenchfriesandmarg if you’re interested in finding out more) – but there is truly something otherworldly about them. It might be the sharp suits or the digitised vocals on the tracks but rest assured you won’t have come across anything like this act in a long while.

Their debut single, entitled ‘CRIMES AGAINST NATURE’ is a sophisticated take on the hyperpop genre, a portion of the music industry to which LGBT+ artists tend to gravitate. The instrumentation is minimal, but utterly unexpected and unique. Mx. Margarita (may we call you French Fries?) injects some of their haute couture sensibilities into this off-the-wall take on pop. The song therefore sounds like the combination of lace on PVC – gauzy, yet polished. Artificial, yet authentic.

This is truly an intriguing artist to follow, and we are looking forward to seeing what they do next…

CRIMES AGAINST NATURE is out on 9th April.
