In my review of Yur Mum’s last single “Black Rainbow” I suggested that their album “Tropical Fuzz” was coming soon.
Hot on the heels of those comments, the band announced that their new album would be released on Chapter 22 Records. Anelise and Fabio join such alt / Brit luminaries as Balaam and the Angel, The Mission, Pop Will Eat Itself, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, & Dawn After Dark, whom Chapter 22 have helped to develop over the years.
“We couldn’t be happier to be signing to Chapter 22. It’s an indescribable feeling to work with people who believe in what you do; and know what they’re doing,” says the duo.
“It’s not a lock-down album”, they’re quick to assure us. “We’ve had the concept for a while. This is a new chapter for us (no pun intended).”
If you explore the band’s back catalogue, you know where they’ve come from. “Black Rainbow” is only a sign of their new direction and, hopefully the signing will bring the release forward, but not rush the production.
Yur Mum discography 2016-2019
- “Igor The Gipsy” (debut single 11/11/2016). Raw punk with a polished metal edge that harkens back to L7, Deb Mansfield / Screamworld, Nitocris, and the femme-fronted punk / grrrl outfits of the 1990s. Comprised Zakos Gado (guitar); Anelise Kunz (bass guitar & vocals); Fabio Couto (drums).
- “Yur Mum” (live EP 10/02/2017, Recorded on 31 October 2016 at the Unicorn Live Camden, London): Some good old fashioned blues / rock licks with Anelise and Fabio killing it in Mitchell / Redding– or Baker / Bruce-fashion during Zakos’ solos.
- “Road Rage” (debut album 2018: Flicknife Records; ask the band about how to get a copy)
- “Sweatshop” (single 24/06/2019): short, sharp, loud, brash with a Plastic Bertrand-lyric delivery.
- “Ellipsis” (EP 6/12/2019): punchy bass-driven Front End Loader / Disneyfist anger and the last record to feature Zakos on guitars.
