Aline Happ, of Lyria, releases version of Nightwish’s Sleeping Sun

Lyria’s vocalist, Aline Happ, released a version of Nightwish’s “Sleeping Sun”. One of the most powerful ballads of the band, originally sung by Tarja Turunen, got a more ethereal atmosphere with more focus on the vocals and on orchestral instruments such as piano, cello and harp, but without giving up on the drums.

“This is the first song more focused on symphonic metal that I recorded for my channel, and Nightwish was one of the first bands from this genre that I have listened to. It’s one of my favorite songs from a band that I really like. They are one of my greatest musical influences! Although it sounds like rock with Celtic influences, my version does not have guitar or bass, but orchestral instruments. The video contains references to the original music video and other concepts related to the message conveyed by the song”, reveals Aline Happ.

Sleeping Sun, originally released in the late 90s as a maxi single, with three other songs, had its release date close to the solar eclipse that occurred on August 11, 1999. Considered one of the Finnish band’s best ballads, its lyrics refer to 222 days of light, coinciding with the date of January 1st until August 10th. It is also one of the singles from Nightwish’s second album, “Oceanborn” (1999). The song was certified with gold disc in Finland, with over 5,000 copies sold and in Germany, with over 15,000 copies sold.

The videos posted on Aline Happ’s channel are sponsored by her fans on Patreon.
