EP Review: Refused – The Malignant

Fire Walk With Me

My friends 2020 is the gift that keeps on giving, the mighty still haven’t fallen, and the weak still suffer. Our Swedish cousins Refused have walked into this eternal hellfire with a new EP aptly titled ‘The Malignant Fire’ two words that sum up our lives right now.

We dip into the 2019 spectacular ‘War Music’ and extract ‘Malfire’ to find that some unwelcome progress has been made. The wolves are no longer at the door, but inside our homes and devouring everything in sight. A song for the outsiders is ‘Born On The Outs’ which talks about the how some of us are ‘knee deep in fascists’ and the rallying cry that ‘it’s not my nation until it’s everyone’s’ is a warm and welcoming feeling that needs to be spread far and wide. The eargasmic ‘Organic’ and white-knuckle punch power of ‘Faceless Corporate Violence’ –  two and a half minutes of repetitive rhythms, savage in its essence and implementation, shows us that ‘Jackals Can’t Be Bothered To Dream’ I mean why would they, when they have everyone else’s to demolish. A detonation of  seismic proportions, it is exigent that you partake.

Keep  the fire burning my friends, to destroy the hate and illuminate our world to show how beautiful it can be.
