Single Review: 50 Year Storm – The Fanlight

A Storm Is Born.

Hello my friends, hope you are well, it’s time to batten down the hatches and prepare for a storm like no other. I’m back in Cornwall y’see for 50 Year Storm, a band who are friends with the mighty Creature, and any friends of the Creature are friends of mine. Pleasantries exchanged, let me introduce the band, we have Damon Morey on vocals/ synths, Emma Limn on drums and Andy Limn on guitar, they have released a single ‘The Fanlight’ and it neatly summarises our depraved mentality for schadenfreude. We delight in another’s suffering; it is exacerbated by social media as immediate photos are captured and published for all to see.

The track is a sprightly slice of alt-rock, clean and user friendly, offering a different perspective and insight to music. They ‘blink three times and fall through the shadows’ and as for the scream at 2.36, catch it and let it find a home in your soul. Something to cherish, ladies and gents, the wave of new music crashes out from the UK coastline, naturally rugged and robust, replete with highs and lows and in-betweens, addressing the hurt with a grown- up sensitivity and understanding. The band prepare to weather the storm that is the music industry, it’s our job to provide the port for them to feel safe and secure.

When you become the storm, you don’t fear the rain.
