Metal band Killer Be Killed are releasing their sophomore album ‘Reluctant Hero’ on 20th November, via Nuclear Blast Records!
Described as ‘inventive in spirit and decisive in execution’, the album represents a renewed statement of purpose with even more depth and clarity.
Mastodon’s Troy Sanders sets off the album to a thrashing start with ‘Deconstructing Self-Destruction’, setting ‘Reluctant Hero’ off on the right path. It is the kind of heavy classic that you associate with Killer Be Killed, leaving you desperate to keep listening.
‘Inner Calm From Outer Storms’ initially drifts from the heavier sounds continued in ‘Dream Gone Bad’ and ‘Left Of Center’. It begins with an unsettling, dark toned introduction that later erupts into a striking metal track. This is a perfect example of how much Killer Be Killed like to mix it up, making for an unpredictable listen.
This off-the-scale intensity is carried into ‘Filthy Vagabond’ which further ramps up the pace with its vicious screams. It’s a completely in-your-face track with no room to draw for breath.
‘The Great Purge’ shows a different side to Killer Be Killed as they experiment with gentler vocals and softer riffs. It makes the album even more dynamic, and one that keeps you on your toes, but this slightly mellower sound is tossed abruptly aside in ‘Comfort From Nothing’.
Title track, ‘Reluctant Hero’ is the perfect closing song. It offers something completely different from the rest of the album with its almost delicate, atmospheric sound. The vocals are gruff, while also being soft, offering a contrast that is inevitably head-turning. This is a song that leaves a lasting impression and perfectly summarises all that Killer Be Killed are!
