Presented by Moment House and performed in London, this was Yungblud’s first show on the virtual ‘Weird Time of Life Tour’ and was indeed sold out!
Baby Queen performed first, and her vocals were on top form! The set had a real indie pop feel to it with an eye catching background along with her backing band. Baby Queen reminded me of a young Kate Nash with the experienced vocals of Nena. The glamorous artist performed her red hot single ‘Buzzkill’ that would leave you dancing around in your living room or bedroom. Real name, Bella Latham, she finished on ‘Pretty Girl Lie’ which was full of catchy lyrics and vocals which left you helpless to just nod your head or tap your feet and enjoy this festival like chilled anthem. Although only four songs were performed in a 15 minute set, it certainly left you wanting more.
Inbetween acts there was a small interval playing a Yungblud song using only the instrumentals to get fans excited.
Up next was Royal & The Serpent which started with a very spooky old like atmosphere. Real name Ryan Santiago, the set reminded me if Billie Elish and Duffy both formed a supergroup out of one voice. Santiago superbly however certainly got fans ready for Yungblud with some catchy tunes as she performed ‘Warn You’ and the brilliant ‘Can’t Get High’ that certainly had lots of energy. Royal & The Serpent finished on ‘Overwhelmed’ as she put a jumpsuit on and sat on a couch along side two dancers before Santiago jumped off. This song in particular was about her expressions towards anxiety, something that is very important in today’s world. The whole set was like a music video done in a very indie cinematic way and a perfect way to set up Yungblud.
The headliner and founder of the black hearts club then performed and came on shouting ‘London’ with incredible energy and started with the wonderful ‘strawberry lipstick’, off his upcoming album ‘weird!’ released on Friday 4th December!
Yungblud then performed an unreleased track of his latest album ‘ice cream man’ that he has been performing for a fair few shows up until now. I’m sure there were a few BHC members jumping around for this one. Next was the incredibly catchy and fitting title song of Dom’s upcoming album ‘weird!’ as he picked up drum sticks for this one and was having the time of his life.
Yungblud was talking about wanting to be performing with fans again and looking forward to his five Kentish Town shows in 2021. Dom then performed ‘parents’ as he allowed fans to sing the chorus at home as he stopped briefly during the song.
The brilliant ‘loner’ was up next from the album ’21st Century Liability’, it was just amazing to hear live again as Yungblud shouted once again to his fans how much he misses them. This song personally really means a lot to me and it’s something I’ve felt throughout my life, so I’m hoping ‘you know what I mean yeah?’.
Yungblud then performed a new track of his upcoming album and brought his electric guitar on stage. He stated how important it was to him and it was about a story of acceptance and family as he sung what I can only think will be his track ‘mars’ with so much passion, you can tell how much this song meant to him. The song is certainly based on his upcoming 2021 tour titled the ‘Life on Mars’ tour which is also a nod to the late David Bowie.
As Dom stated how much he loves his fans, he also said ‘to be yourself and if anyone else says different, fook em”.
His next song was about sex as he performed another track of his upcoming album, ‘cotton candy’ and it certainly got myself clapping along as he screamed ‘fook yeah’ afterwards.
Dom then asked his fans to get ready to get sad and got his acoustic guitar out and joked about playing ‘Wonderwall’ but then a much more serious side to Yungblud came to play and stated about how the song means so special to him and that it’s about finding himself and knowing who his true friends are as he performed ‘it’s quiet in beverley hills’. Although the electric atmosphere slowed down a little, the song certainly would bring a tear to your eyes.
Then another touching song followed as Yungblud performed on the piano with a unreleased song from his upcoming album ‘weird!’ although that electric atmosphere certainly kicked in halfway through the song as the anthem kicked too full flight. This was Yungblud’s last song on the evening as fans continued to chat to each other in the conversation chat. It was an amazing evening of music and truly made me miss live music. Here’s to 2021 as we look forward to seeing Yungblud live in person once again.
