Tides “Silver Lining” independent debut-single released 3 July 2020

Tides is a 5-piece heavy-music outfit based in Lincoln in the East Midlands of the UK. Comprised of Aaron Hall on guitars and songwriting, Chloè Jokivel killer vocals up front, Thomas Osbourne on lead guitars, and the powerhouse of Adam Perkins on bass and Aaron Smith on drums, they’re the earliest in their career that I have come across thus far in my own career-rebirth with only three songs available across Soundcloud and YouTube.

Self-described as akin to MUSEHalestormAlter Bridge, and Black Stone Cherry, their press says that their influence is drawn from prominent arena-acts of the last few decades. Their heavy, bluesy, classic-rock-style is rapidly earning the support of radio across the UK, France, and Canada, including an appearance in August on “BBC Introducing” which I was hoping to access because scrolling through the band’s Facebook photos shows a number of gigs around the Midlands with both originals and covers since at least May!

So until we can access more of their music, we only have these tracks, each of which also has a video on their YouTube channel:

Silver Lining – very Matthew Bellamy-meets-The Big Dirty on the heavy-metal end of the heavy-music scale and some excellent riffing between Thomas and both Aarons. Chloè‘s vocals were just made for this type of music, while the video has the band in full flight and don’t they love what they do!

Watch It Burn – a slightly slower take on things but lacking nothing. The ice is melting with some deathly growls from one of the guys and overdubs from Chloè. A bleak outlook on the fate of the world if we don’t change our ways any time soon with a lyric video.

Broken Record – maybe as chunky as Lining, maybe chunkier; with a prog-approach to time signatures and tempos. The only one of the three songs only available as a video.

An album? An EP? Another release? Given the new and more intense lock-down thanks to the second COVID wave in the UK and a planned wedding given Adam’s recent proposal to Chloé: maybe, maybe not. I’ve subscribed to their YouTube channel and follow them on  Soundcloud to keep across it and suggest you do the same to keep up to date on the developing career which is Tides.
