Album Review: The Jaded Hearts Club – You’ve Always Been Here

Rock & roll band, The Jaded Hearts Club are releasing their debut album ‘You’ve Always Been Here’ on 2nd October!

The band comprises of rock legends Miles Kane (The Last Shadow Puppets), Nic Cester (Jet), Graham Coxon (Blur), Jamie Davis, Matt Bellamy (Muse), and Sean Payne (The Zutons) – enough said! It’s a raucous, fun rock album with a fantastic selection of songs, which is just what we need to perk us up during these trying times!

Our first proper glimpse in to The Jaded Hearts Club is with a nostalgic cover of ‘Reach Out (I’ll Be There)’ originally by the Four Tops. Although this is not drastically different from the original, the vocals have a slight rock edge to them making it marginally more upbeat. However, the song doesn’t stop you in your tracks.

Following on from this is ‘Have Love Will Travel’ which really picks up the pace and gets the party started! Despite it being quite a widely covered song, The Jaded Hearts Club do a fantastic job of it and it suits Matt Bellamy’s vocals perfectly, raising the standards for the rest of the album.

The songs flow with ease and the energy is infectious! If you had doubts about these guys working together at the start then they are sure to have disappeared by now!

‘Long And Lonesome Road’ is full to the brim with swagger! The thumping of the drums and the screeching of the guitar make you stop in your tracks, it has a captivating side that you can’t escape. This slightly sleazy yet mesmerising vibe is continued in to following track ‘I Put A Spell On You’, which has been revived with an old school rock sound.

Originally released in 1996, The Jaded Hearts Club took on a cover of ‘Love’s Gone Bad’. This is undoubtably one of the stand-out songs on the album. It has an infectious, foot-tapping beat that is almost impossible to resist. But with this is the bittersweet reminder that the album has almost come to an end…

‘You’ve Always Been Here’ ends on a surprisingly mellow song. ‘Fever’ has a simplicity not heard earlier in the album, this acoustic sound and the whispering vocals create an entirely new vibe making you wonder what they could possibly create next?

The Jaded Hearts Club consists of 6 musical geniuses, so the expectations were high. Although a cover album isn’t necessarily what was expected, it was a great homage to some brilliant rock classics and its safe to say they did more than justice to these tracks. But this is just the beginning…
