After already being deemed their ‘strongest track to date’, Bristol’s own, Immerse has released their huge new track ‘Southbound’. Having already revived a myriad of support from big names, we spoke to the band about the release, lockdown and the real meaning behind their insane new single!
With the upcoming release of ‘Southbound’ coming soon, what is it that inspired and fuelled the single?
Southbound is all about being away on the road touring. Travelling to new countries with your mates playing shows is an amazing experience and we love doing it! The energetic sound represents how manic it can be going from show to show. Definitely one to crank loud in the sunshine!
Does it have any personal meaning or depth to the bands own past/experiences?
We’ve played some great shows over the years and wished loved ones could have been there to see it. This song reflects on missing family and friends whilst being away doing what we love.
Did the huge bubble of sound behind the track dictate that this was going to be a single or was there another factor involved?
It wasn’t originally going to be a single! The plan was to use it at a later time but we felt it was the perfect track to release as summer is coming to a close. It’s been a strange summer for everyone so we wanted to give our fans something to enjoy. It’s the most pop-punk we’ve ever gone.
I know fans will be buzzing to hear ‘Southbound’ live, are you excited to hopefully start playing again in 2021 and what kind of reaction do you think you’ll get from playing it?
During these past couple of months, we’ve really knuckled down to create the most exciting live set possible. We have an intimate UK headline tour booked for January so make sure you grab a ticket! Southbound is a great addition and by the next time we play, people should know all the words and be singing along! It’s one of the faster songs in the set so it will get people moving.
How do you feel about possibly having to play socially distanced gigs and shows, do you think it will make it harder to get the crowd buzzing and do you think the usual dynamics of a live show will be much different?
It will be strange for sure but we will give it our all as always. There’s always a lot of crowd interaction at our shows so we’ll have to adapt things slightly. We want our fans to be safe and if we can get them headbanging along I’ll be happy!
Obviously, lockdown and the current situation has changed so many things especially when it comes to music, have you found it difficult to keep working/ stay inspired?
Lockdown has given me more time to write and record new music. I’ve had the opportunity to work on new ideas and experiment with new synthesised sounds. I’ve been fortunate that my creativity is flowing and I’m currently writing songs easily. Sometimes it can be really difficult and a complete block.
Did lockdown provide a nice break for you guys or have you been at it and working still?
The first month or so was a great break from work but we soon wanted to start getting back to normal. I don’t think any of us expected the pandemic to effect the entire year for live music. It’s also disappointing to miss the holidays that we each had booked but next year should be amazing if everything stays on!
Finally, ‘Southbound’ is such a huge and incredible sound and deserves all the recognition it is getting, but what has it been like to receive so much praise and support from so many massive names?
It feels amazing that so many people are vibing with our song. Kerrang has shown support on all of our new singles which has been awesome. A lot of time and effort has gone into making it the best it can be and we’re so happy with the way it’s been received. Thank you for the kind comments.
