Neck Deep are releasing their fourth, searing new album ‘All Distortions Are Intentional’ this Friday 24th July 2020.
Make sure you are fully prepared as Neck Deep don’t disappoint, bringing 12-tracks of raging sonic rock and punk, much to the delight of fans.
It is splattered with themes of disconnection, existentialism, and confusion that are polished into tracks so rich that you can’t get the taste out your head!
The album’s raw conceptuality amongst the usual arsenal of crashing drums and catchy riffs coincides perfectly to generate a searing blow of untamed punk energy that will have you jumping around the room with the volume on max.
Kicking off the album is a classically Neck Deep styled ‘Sonderland’. The catchy, sombre vocals against the smattering of drums becomes pure electrical energy, jumping from the speakers to pump your body full of adrenaline for the 11 tracks that follow.
‘Telling stories’ champions this carefree attitude that Neck Deep exude to fill every crashing drum beat and soaring lyric with ease and confidence.
Turning up the pop element on the album is also the catchy upbeat pull of ‘When You Know’. Culminating the underlying harmonies and the steely electricity of the guitar ‘When you Know’ propellers the sound upwards before the halfway point is marked by the sombre, stripped back sounds of ‘Quarry’.
In homage to the album title, ‘Sick Joke’ is a perfectly distorted, addictive track. The lyrics ‘I’m still here, and I’m not dead’ are sure to strike a chord with most listeners due to the incomparable personal expression – something that was rarely found on the earlier records.
‘What Took You So Long?’ offers a fresh side to Neck Deep. They somewhat leave behind their rock sound and embrace more synth-pop elements. Having said this, it still has their classic sound and at the end of the day, I guess you can’t kick up the roots….
Themes of loneliness radiate from ‘Empty House’. Despite the more melancholy lyrics, musically it is quite a feel-good song that evolves from something more chilled into a true pop-punk anthem.
Building on this is ‘Little Dove’. Regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of Neck Deep, this summery little acoustic pop-punk track is inevitably enjoyable! The lyrics connect with you on a whole new level and it is definitely a track everyone needs to hear.
‘I Revolve (Around You)’ is classic Neck Deep. This sounds exactly like what you would expect to hear on one of their albums but in a way that demonstrates how they’ve grown since ‘The Peace And The Panic’. It is the perfect, most natural evolution but without being samey.
‘All Distortions Are Intentional’ comes to a grand end with final track ‘Pushing Daisies’. This song perfectly ties the whole album together as we bid farewell to The Lowlife. The pure power and strength within the lyrics is infectious and creates an ending that just radiates positivity. The album offers a journey of self-discovery which is hard to replicate, once again, Neck Deep have done us proud!
