Interview: Wham Bam!

So how has your latest album/EP gone so far with fans then?

We’ve just released our debut single “On Your Own” – a catchy rock & roll/grungy track, released with a fun lyric video (even Beavis & Butthead make a guest appearance). The receptions so far has been really positive, people really seem to dig the catchy, groovy melodies and simple, straight forward song structure. It leaves you hanging and wanting to hear it again. The fun lyric video has also had a great response so far, it’s got a retro, cartoonish video game energy which suits the song well. Tell us something about the release no one knows?

Well people probably don’t realise we live on opposite sides of the planet and wrote & recorded the song remotely. The video was also done ourselves all on an iPhone.

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?

Collaborating with Alice in Chains would be really cool, one of our main inspirations from a young age. QOTSA would also be a interesting combination with our sound. Another cool collab would be with Post Malone, we could come up with some interesting and fun vibes together.

Can you tell us about the meaning behind the track?

Our music says – Don’t take life and yourself too serious, have some fun. Our lyrics go deeper but it also supports this overall theme of optimism and hope. “On your own” is about relationships and dealing with loss and life in general, but packaged in a an upbeat, catchy melody with some melancholic, emotional undertones.

What tours do you have coming up, and what can you tell us about them?

No immediate plans due to Covid but also the fact that we’re living in different countries and Wham Bam! being primarily a virtual collaboration project. But plans are also in the pipeline for South African and European dates in the next year.

What venue are you most looking forward to playing the most, and why?

Any intimate club venue would be great, where you can interact and feed of the crowds’ energy. A UK/EUR festival slot is also a dream goal for 2021.

What else can we expect from in 2020?

We’re in studio putting the final touches on our second single “Fool’s Gold” – a catchy pop/rock anthem with massive crowd-pleasing potential – this will lead up to the release of our debut EP later in 2020.
