Album Review: The Spitfires – ‘Life Worth Living’

Three-piece band, The Spitfires, are due to release their latest album, ‘Life Worth Living’ on the 19th June 2020.

The genre-mashing Watford trio definitely don’t shy away from the unique as they bring a versatile range of influences and elements to their ‘Life Worth Living’ album.

Although a diverse blend of genres and influences initially seem nauseating, the band’s ability to manipulate them to each track fits the album perfectly. Not only does it prevent any monotony, but it is a perfect reflection of life’s unpredictability and the mass of emotions we feel daily.

From the get-go the bands’ passion is audible as their sharp and unique style culminates into the punchy, brass infused opener, ‘Start All Over Again’.

Flourishes of uncommon instruments populate the album from start to finish, making the whole album stand out. From start to finish.

As an initial insight to the album, the already released, ‘(Just Won’t) Keep Me Down’ is an excellent example.

Amongst the sound of sirens, yelps and electric ethereal sounds, a quiet chaos pulses its way through this track which narrates the drama from the end of a night out on the town. It is one of the many tracks which almost anyone can understand and relate to, no matter your background.

The softer sounding ‘How Could I Lie To You’, translates a slower tempo and reflective tone into a jazzy, blues sounding piece. ‘Make It Through Each Day’ similarly uses this sensitive element and sound to deal with themes of loss, struggle and change in a relationship.

With vocals sounding similar to that of Liam Fray (Courteeners) there is an upbeat indie element that can’t be ignored. Amongst the electricity and drums of the track, the genre provides a perfect base for the band to experiment with. It is the introduction of strings, keys, percussion and brass which takes this a step further and allows every track to blossom and form its own emotion and direction.

‘Life Worth Living’ mashes the loud, quiet, messy and beautiful aspects of life into the 10-track album which understands and translates the good and bad times into an audible backdrop of daily life.

The album will be released on 19th June 2020.
