EP Review: Crossfaith – Species

Species: Unclassified.

Hello, my friends, hope you are all keeping well during this mind-bogglingly chaotic lockdown. Fear not though as I come bearing gifts from our cousins, Crossfaith who are unleashing a short but electrically charged EP titled ‘Species’ for your delectation. Singer Kenta Koie and his brethren are forever searching for new landscapes and canvases in order to fulfil their passion for music and create something fresh and exciting. Songs have always been an alternative method of expressing your feelings when words alone can’t be formulated. So let’s welcome the   ‘Digital Parasite’ in a galvanic and positively searing start to this mini outing and listen out for the reality check lyric ‘ you have sold your soul for the goddamn spotlight’, it is accurate when you see the numerous social media platforms available to us so we can upload at will.

The head thumping refrain on ‘Endorphin’ enhances the techno/ dance elements and makes way for the monster vocals at 0.48. locked in neatly with almost thrashy, nerves of steel riffery, you’re at home here. There is a Sci-Fi, futuristic feel to ‘Truth Of Insanity’ but still true to the origins of pedal to the metal Rock ‘N Roll. A slight detour into the world of Rap with featured artist Jin Dogg, as ‘None Of Your Business’ is the fuck you anthem to see off the toxicity and hatred. To finish we have the high energy ballad ‘Your Song’ and its punchy and powerful outlook.

This record I’ve deemed unclassified because Crossfaith want to be different, they don’t want to be compartmentalised and to that end they have delivered a record that engages and entices with all the flexibility of a contortionist. Assume the crash position please my friends, as the inbound flight of fury from Japan is about to land.
