Scottish rock band We Were Promised Jetpacks have announced their new EP out of interest will be released via Big Scary Monsters on 19th June, and they’ve unveiled a new single from the record, same mistakes, out now on all streaming platforms. “We had a few songs that we had worked extensively on that didn’t quite fit into our tracklist for The More I Sleep The Less I Dream,” says vocalist Adam Thompson, “so we decided to package them up in some nice art and see if anyone would like to hear what else we had been working on around the time of our last record.”
out of interest is made up of five previously unreleased songs and demo recordings taken from their 2018 album The More I Sleep The Less I Dream, a release which saw the band explore a much darker side to their craft than on previous works. On same mistakes soaring guitars feel as melancholic as they do hopeful; offering a reflective harmony from a band whose career started in high school and sustained them through life changes and constant touring into their 30s. The concepts of miscommunication and self doubt which flow right through the entirety of The More I Sleep The Less I Dream are presented on the new EP in their rawest forms, from the demoed version of impossible to the elegant expanses of washed out guitars on when getting lost.
“The two live tracks were from a week of shows we played to try out a lot of new material. Those shows were invaluable to us as we felt we got to know the songs even more after playing them in front of others. same mistakes was written and recorded at the same time as the album was … it’s a song about seeing yourself and others continuously make bad decisions even though you know those decisions are bad.” – Adam Thompson
out of interest is out on 19th June via Big Scary Monsters and is available to pre-order on limited yellow vinyl.
