Single Review: Past Lives’ Into the Night and Vindicate

A hop skip and a jump across the water from Donegal comes Tomas Walsh, to position himself as singer in Past Lives whose line up is completed by Zach Davis on guitar, Jack Waterfield on bass and Ryan Walsh on drums, from Coventry.  Still a fledgling band, they have two singles out now for you to ruminate over. Last year saw the release of debut single ‘Into The Night’    and with the slinky lyric ‘I’ll climb up your ivory tower’ well hold on their fellas, Rapunzel is still washing her hair, but is aware of your chivalrous and noble intentions.

Oozing a fairytale like character and charm, it is perfumed with the heady aroma of roses and as they say romance isn’t dead my friends. This has a classic 90’s vibe, a bit like The Coral, friendly and inviting. The lonely guitar strums harmoniously until 0.40 and the group come together for a convivial and quite sociable outing. These lads cite their influences as Oasis, Nirvana, DMA’S and even The Cheeky Girls (oo-er missus), quite an eclectic mix I would say.

New song ‘Vindicate’ shows us a succession of familiar TV clips, depicting real life issues centred around destruction and death, quite apt in our current situation and with a cute little riff at 2.48, you got me purring like a pussycat.

The unrefined, gritty quality is exactly what is needed here to emphasise the infamy of the narrative. Set against the dark night makes this a powerful and persuasive piece of work.

By their own admission they are lovers of good times, beers, and Rock ‘N Roll, well come on board gents and let us celebrate, erm….perhaps after lockdown eh?

A fine effort from our fresh as a daisy cousins, wishing them well in the journey forward.
