Graham Gouldman,”Modesty Forbids”(Lojinx)-“Modesty Forbids” finds the Salford born bassist,singer and consumate pop craftsman in typically polished and tuneful form as he unveils his first solo album since 2012’s “Love and Work.”Graham Gouldman first made his name as an unusually gifted jobbing songwriter in the mid sixties,penning hits for outfits such as The Yardbirds, Herman’s Hermits and The Hollies while holding down a day job in a men’s outfitters,but he’s probably best remembered these days for his work with 10cc a decade or so later. Graham’s public profile may have slipped a little since those days but he can still turn out a memorable ditty when the occasion demands it and he’s in particularly fine fettle here, joining forces with friend and former All Star Band cohort Ringo Starr for one of the album’s musical highlights,”Standing Next To Me.”
