Calva Louise turn new leaf with single ‘Camino’

Calva Louise kickstart a new chapter today, with the release of their oscillating new single Camino. The track has already seen support from BBC Radio 1 and Radio X. Equal parts electrifying and kaleidoscopic, the track takes the band’s punk roots to new heights and is telling of things to come later this year.

“‘Camino’ is about losing all the efforts of a lifetime, but having the willpower to go through it all over again”, explains vocalist and guitarist Jess Allanic, “Rather than looking back at everything you’ve lost, have a positive mindset and look forward. The word ‘Camino’ means path in Spanish, and it mirrors our priority to give to our audience the most authentic music from Calva Louise. Many things are changing in our lives, and there are some stylistic changes. Our next EP may have a different approach from our previous songs, but trust me, our hearts are really in this”.

These words are testament to Calva Louise’s free spirit. With roots in Venezuela,  France and New Zealand, the trio crossed paths in London during 2016 and hit the ground running. So far, the band have one EP and a debut album to their name – both encompassing a sound as eclectic as their nationalities; from clanging indie, to dark pop, to hypnotic electronica, to frenzied punk. It’s a molotov cocktail that really works, with plaudits from BBC Radio 1ClashThe Line Of Best FitRadio X, alongside high profile fans such as Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes).

Calva Louise’s mission statement has always been to keep fans on their toes whilst staying true to their identity. Jess’s songwriting is testament to this, with her impassioned lyrics weaving between English and her native Spanish. “We want to explore and express new ideas and sounds that can reach people all over the world”, smiles Jess, “Our audience embraces our bilingual sound, I regularly get asked for translations and see people singing along at shows with us. Singing some parts of our songs in Spanish celebrates integration and diversity – because even though we come from different parts of the world, our music is universal!

Live is home for Calva Louise. Over the past couple of years they’ve whittled an impressive set of notches on the touring post, selling out countless headline shows alongside supporting the likes of Razorlight and The Blinders. The trio are set to support Highly Suspect throughout March in the UK and Europe, followed by appearances at 2000 Trees and Y Not this summer, with additional dates to be announced soon.

Calva Louise are a sonic boom waiting to happen. Watch this space for further news.
