Bastille release Doom Days (This Got Out Of Hand), an extended version of their critically acclaimed third album

Bastille have released Doom Days (This Got Out Of Hand), an extended version of their critically acclaimed third album, Doom Days. The enhanced edition of the record features new material, demo tracks, ReOrchestrated versions of past releases and their recent collaboration with Alessia Cara on Another Place.

Bolstered by an additional 11 tracks, the new edition of Doom Days also includes the band’s cover of REO Speedwagon’s Can’t Fight This Feeling, recorded with the London Contemporary Orchestra. Bastille’s version of the hit ‘80s power ballad features on this year’s John Lewis and Waitrose Christmas ad seeing the band join the likes of Elton John, Lily Allen, and Elbow as the house band for the highly-anticipated festive ad.

As well as new songs, Admit Defeat and Good Lesson, the new edition of Doom Days also boasts a number of Bastille rarities, released digitally for the first time. Final Hour originally appeared on an exclusive Target version of the group’s second album Wild World, while fan favourite Hangin’ and Comfort Of Strangers were released for Record Store Day in 2015 and 2017 respectively. ReOrchestrated versions of Doom Days tracks Another Place and Million Pieces also feature, recorded with The Chamber Orchestra Of London and inspired by the band’s 2018 tour that saw them rework their catalogue into classical compositions.

Frontman, Dan Smith says, “We’re releasing this expanded version of our album as a gift to our fans and to thank them for all their incredible support. We’ve had an amazing 2019 playing the album on tours and at festivals all across the world, and this collection of songs completes the “Doom Days” recordings and the trilogy that is our first three albums.”

Doom Days found Bastille at their most lyrically provocative, most accomplished, and most vital, and charts the course of one night at a house party in search of distraction from the surrounding apocalypse. Since its release in June, the album has built on Bastille’s position as a global phenomenon, receiving widespread critical acclaim and charting in the top 5 in both the UK and US. Bastille are one of only three British acts to achieve such a feat this year, alongside The Beatles and Queen.

Over the course of the last decade, Bastille have become one of the most influential bands around. The characteristics of their unique sound – that cinematic, melancholic pop that masks the bleak realities reflected in their lyrics – can be heard in music around the world, inspiring both rising acts and established stars.

The band recently completed a two-month long North American headline tour that brought the nighttime concept of Doom Days to life. Bastille are currently in the middle of a special run of sold out club shows across the UK, giving fans the opportunity to hear the record played live in its entirety in venues away from the traditional touring route.
