Interview: Kar talk latest single ‘On Our Own’

Only formed a few short months ago, indie-pop three piece Kar are a young band hoping to make a big impact, and with their second single due for release this month, they’re set to do just that.

Finding a shared passion in similar musical styles, Kar formed after the trio met while studying music at Bath College, going on to perform gigs in the local area, creating a small buzz in local venues.

Kar went on to be accepted onto the MAS Records development scheme, which aims to give young, aspiring musicians free rehearsal and recording time, in the hopes that they can provide emerging artists with a bridge into the wider industry. With patrons such as Robert Plant, Ricky Wilson and Kevyn Gammond, MAS Records has proved invaluable to Kar.

Their debut single ‘Anything At All’ was released in June of this year and was championed for it’s emotive lyricism and catchy melodies, focusing on new love that can grow from the broken remains of an old love.

Recorded, mixed and mastered with Josh Gallop at Stage 2 Studios, their follow up single ‘On Our Own’ explores similar themes. ‘On Our Own’, was released on October 30th, is a tender track about how relationships influence life, for better or worse. Their haunting vocals, atmospheric guitars and melancholic lyrics rounds off a charming second single for the group.

We managed to catch up with Kar as they talked about their latest single and more!

So how has the release of On Our Own gone down with fans so far?
So far we’ve had nothing but incredible feedback from the song, this means a lot to us and motivates us to write more music and hopefully get it out fairly soon.

Can you tell us something about the single no one else knows?
No one knows that if you listen to the song 10 times on repeat that you develop the ability to fly.

What was the best moment making the single?
Our favourite part was definitely going to the studio after it had been mixed and mastered, all sitting together and listening to it for the first time, was a spine tingling moment.

How have the people at MAS Records helped you become the band you are now?
The guys at MAS go the extra mile to make sure that we are doing the best we can do and getting the most out of our rehearsal and recording time. We are very appreciative and would not be here without them.

So you have patrons including Robert Plant and Ricky Wilson, how much does that mean to you?
It’s crazy that MAS has support from such successful musicians and it gives us confidence that hopefully one day we will be doing mad stuff like they have!

Will you be touring at all this year?
This year we are mainly going to be releasing music and building up a larger audience but I suppose you never know what exactly is going to be happening a year from now 😉

If you could work with any band on a new song, who would it be and why?
It would have to be cage the elephant, they’re unique sound is so interesting to listen to and their lyrics are just stunning and inspire us to be creative and express whatever we want in song form
